Ever since a Christmas Day open mic event two years ago in her hometown of Cave Creek, Arizona, 14-year-old Cali Rodi has been lighting up stages all around the state with her amazing vocals and left-handed guitar-playing. Catching the eye of AZ Chicks with Picks co-founders Pandy Raye and Rhonda Hitchcock, Cali landed her first paying gig at the Buffalo Chip Saloon at age 12, and quickly became a sought-after performer at venues such as Harold’s Corral, Azools, Cocomo Joe’s, Legends, Fatso’s, and Rula Bula. Soon, Cali shared the stage with popular local acts Easton Ashe, and Billy Cioffi and the Monte Carlos, playing at the New Year’s Eve Fiesta Bowl Block Party in Tempe, and the P.F. Chang’s Rock-and-Roll Marathon in Phoenix. Today I was thinking about one of my best friends. Her husband passed away 3 years ago this week. Tony passed away from skin cancer at the age of 31!! It was a horrible experience. This picture was taken 6 months before he died. My friend and Tony's family are so thankful that we were able to capture him at this time. Now her son is able to have this picture to remember his father. We don't always think about what tomorrow will bring us? Live each day to the fullest! I am still touched by this moment with Tony like it was yesterday.
